Black Box upgrades digital KVM switches for SDI broadcast video via SFP

April 9, 2014
New SFP technology adds HD video and HDMI capabilities to the scalable matrix switch.

At the 2014 NAB Show (April 7-10), Black Box (NASDAQ: BBOX) announced that it has expanded broadcast video functionality for its advanced digital KVM (DKM) matrix platform. By using modular small form-factor pluggable (SFP) technology from Embrionix, the DKM matrix switch can now be used with serial digital interface (SDI) technology, the prevalent standard in broadcast and media applications.

The new SFP ports on the DKM matrix switches will also support and extend HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, and high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video connections, as well as standard KVM signals. Real-time signal conversion is also supported between SDI, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HDMI through these specialized SFP connections, says the company.

Black Box bills its DKM HD video and matrix switch is a copper/fiber hybrid system that provides KVM, video routing, and switching and signal conversion in a single, convergent platform. The DKM FX line features redundant power supplies, hot-swappable components, and a modular architecture that now scales simply and cost-effectively to meet the needs of broadcast and media professionals, concludes the company.
