10-port PoE switch is optimized for IP cameras

June 5, 2014
Unlike switches designed for common data applications, the Vi3010 provides special features for IP cameras.

Vigitron has introduced its Vi3010, a 10-port version of the company's Vi3026 port network PoE switch bearing the same unique features. The new switch's PoE power budget is 180W; all ports can provide up to 15.4W (802.3af), and 6 of the ports can provide up to 30W (802.3at) PoE power.

Unlike other switches designed for common data applications, the Vi3010 provides special features for IP cameras, notes Vigitron. Each port can be programmed to limit PoE power surge to reduce potential damages. Unique programming monitors the connection between the individual switch ports and the connected devices. In the event that data connections or PoE fails during the initial start-up or normal operation, the switch automatically reconnects to save the potentials for field service call. Several windows display system status for fast troubleshooting of system problems.

Incorporating 8 PoE and 2 SFP jacks, all 10 of the Vi3010's Ethernet ports support 1-Gbps speeds. Other features of the Vi3010 include: SNMP for communicating error messaging; automatic MAC identification; and Individual IP Source Guard capability. All ports of Vi3010 are programmable to handle Jumbo Frames up to 9600 bytes, easily supporting the highest-megapixel IP cameras. The Vi3010 provides a high bandwidth switch fabric of 20Gb to assure the highest image quality with all ports in operation.

The Vi3010 also maintains the popular Virtual Stacking feature of the Vi3026, which allows the switches to be placed anywhere within the network, and to be controlled and monitored by a single IP address. This feature eliminates the need for home running all cables to a single location and allows the Vi3010 be used as a node routed to the Vi3026 as a backbone.
