Data center cloud computing specialist Red Cloud goes modular with Cannon T4 solutions

Oct. 30, 2014
The data center operator plans to use Cannon’s modular and customizable data center solutions to fuel its expansion across Australia.

Australian data center cloud computing specialist Red Cloud has ambitions to expand its reach throughout the continent, and plans to use Cannon Technologies’ T4 modular data center solutions to make it happen. Cannon recently announced that the two organizations signed a mutually exclusive agreement to deploy the modular systems throughout the expansion.

“The project will see Red Cloud increase its footprint by investing in 11 major data centers around Australia, providing 1 million square feet of technical space,” Cannon said when announcing the deal. It added that Red Cloud “is aiming to pursue its disruptive business model, directly targeting wholesale customers with energy-efficient, carrier- and technology-neutral data centers. The first facility, The Garry Henley Data Center Park, is imminent—becoming fully operational in the first quarter of 2015 at the Phoenix Business Park situation in Bibra Lake, a suburb of Perth.” The next scheduled facilities to open will be operational by 2015’s third quarter, Cannon added. “All of the Red Cloud Data Center on Demand facilities will be populated with the Cannon T4 range of cutting-edge MDC Pods,” it said.

The Cannon T4 MDC Pods allow for fast deployment, according to Cannon, “in a safe and unobtrusive manner into a working environment, enabling Red Cloud to offer uniquely flexible accommodation options to its clients. The Cannon T4 Pods can be hand-assembled in days within the host building, using hand tools only, avoiding the need for dangerous maneuvering using heavy machinery. It is also possible to conjoin adjacent Cannon T4 Pods into one large data hall for contiguous expansion.”

Carl Woodbridge is the chief executive officer of the data center cloud computing organization, Red Cloud. He reflected, “One of the main drivers in our market is a lower total cost of operation, and that was one of our main drivers in selecting the Cannon T4 MDC range, along with the agility of the product to upgrade components for customers. The customization aspect is proving to be very popular.”

Woodbridge further commented that the decision to use Cannon’s modular data center solutions came after significant consideration. “We had quite a shopping list,” he said. “We need to provide clients with a blend of cutting-edge efficiency, truly granular incremental growth, high security, and expansion logistics without compromising the high resilience required by their operations.”

The provider also is using Cannon T4’s data center infrastructure management—DCIM—software package “to further enhance the client advantage by enabling cutting-edge remote control and monitoring, driving efficiency, resilience, reliability, and security to achieve a robust and predictable environment with the additional benefit of reduced management load,” Cannon explained.
