Traveling one-day seminar discusses infrastructure trends for enterprises, data centers

Oct. 9, 2013
Organized by CommScope and including providers of transceivers as well as networking systems, the seminar covers topics including connectivity, intelligent lighting and in-building wireless.

A one-day seminar event organized by CommScope and titled Innovation@Work is “designed to help business and facility managers stay ahead of technology and operational issues they face very day,” the company says. “Business enterprises continually contend with efficiency issues, especially in regards to energy use and the operation of data centers and building automation,” CommScope added, saying that’s why it is “packing its bags and hitting the road” on the seminar tour. The tour began October 1 in Kansas City and ultimately will visit nine cities by the time it wraps up in Toronto on October 29.

Each event includes in-depth discussions on data center infrastructure management, intelligent lighting, connectivity solutions and in-building wireless solutions. CommScope is joined by expert presenters from IBM, Brocade, Aquantia, Avago and Redwood Systems to provide these educational forums to end users and consultants, the company notes.

After the October 1 kickoff in Kansas City, the tour visited Chicago on October 3 and Seattle on October 8. It will visit Santa Clara on October 10, New York City on October 15, Boston on October 17, Atlanta on October 22, Dallas on October 24 and Toronto on October 29. Clicking on each city name will bring you to the seminar agenda for that city. Attendees are eligible to receive 5 continuing education credits toward BICSI ITS professional credentials, including RCDD, DCDC and others.

Anne Marie Kenneally, senior vice president of global enterprise sales for CommScope, commented, “With the increased need for data capacity, ubiquitous wireless coverage within buildings and reduced energy consumption, the drive towards more intelligent buildings and data centers has become a major focus. As leading participants in the development of new industry standards and technological innovation, CommScope and its partners will share cutting-edge concepts, discuss industry trends and promote a better understanding of solutions for business enterprises.”

In an interview with Cabling Installation & Maintenance, CommScope’s director of strategic marketing David Tanis shared that in the early seminars, the subject of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) spurred a significant amount of discussion and questions among attendees. The seminar includes a presentation and demonstration of a DCIM system. In March 2013, CommScope acquired DCIM provider iTRACS. In addition to DCIM, topics typically on the day-long agenda include next-generation data center connectivity; trends in data center architecture, application flow and virtualization; optical technologies for 40/100G data center interconnects; 10GBase-T; smart connectivity in the enterprise; strategies for wireless; building intelligence; and intelligent lighting systems. The program can vary slightly from city to city.
