Hybrid cable enables data, power connections in agricultural equipment

April 28, 2020
Helukabel’s ISOBUS PUR cable connects sensors, video and other devices in tractors and implements.

Helukabel recently introduced the ISOBUS hybrid cable for use in the agriculture industry. The cable provides power and data connections between tractors, combines, sprayers and other farm vehicles to agricultural implements at either the front or the rear of the machine.

The cable complies with standard ISO 11783 Tractors and Machinery for Agriculture and Forestry—Serial Control and Communications Data Network. That standard “governs the communication between agricultural machinery, mainly tractors and implements,” Helukabel said. Applications for the cable include wheel sensors, auto steer and turnaround, GPS navigation, row guidance, equipment monitoring and sensors, video input, and fleet management.

“The PUR-jacketed hybrid cable can operate in environments ranging in temperature from -40 deg. F to +185 deg. F (-40 deg. C to +85 deg. C), application-dependent,” the company said, adding that the cable’s “rugged outer jacket can withstand oil, abrasion, UV rays, microbes, and is flame-retardant.”

The cable is available in three variations, each of which has four 20-AWG conductors for communications.
