RF and twisted-pair cable assemblies with low-smoke zero-halogen construction

CDM Electronics offers semi-custom assemblies for Ethernet, RF and power applications, including twisted-pair cable with RJ45 plugs.

CDM Electronics recently announced the availability of semi-custom assemblies for radio-frequency (RF), Ethernet and power applications. The assemblies are part of CDM’s Smoke and Fire Exposure Reducing (SAFER) Cable Assembly Series.

“The low-smoke zero-halogen [LSZH] SAFER cable assemblies are intended for spaces where large amounts of cables are in close proximity to people or sensitive electronic equipment, and anywhere PVC’s combustive toxicity is restricted by fire code,” the company said. “Their low-smoke properties reduce the amount and density of smoke to make it easier for occupants to exit a space in the event of a fire, while their zero-halogen properties reduce toxicity and corrosivity that can harm buildings, electronic equipment, and metallic structures. The series is commonly used in mass-transit, airports, commercial aircraft, submarines and ships, telecommunications/central-office facilities, museums, and designated historic structures.”

Offered in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market, the semi-custom SAFER cable assemblies are designed to help OEMs accelerate time-to-market while minimizing the costs associated with designing a fully custom assembly, CDM explained. “They are provided standard in the most popular configurations, in lengths ranging from 1 to 25 feet, and are overmolded for added safety and durability,” the company continued. “Assemblies meet all applicable CMR, UL/NEC, CSA and NFPA safety requirements, and may be ordered in prototype and production quantities. Fully customized SAFER cable assemblies are also offered.”

CDM’s SAFER RF jumper assemblies are made using either Times Microwave LMR FR low-smoke zero-halogen low-loss cable, or Times Microwave Mil-Spec LLSB low-smoke zero-halogen flexible low-loss cable, which is engineered for aerospace and shipboard applications. “SAFER jumper assemblies are supplied with assorted Times Microwave standard connector interfaces, including BNC, N-Type, SMA and TNC,” DCM Electronics noted. “SAFER Ethernet assemblies are preconfigured with straight, left-facing or right-facing RJ45 connectors to meet applications’ safety and space parameters.”
