Bel intros 10-GbE LAN magnetics modules, for use with 10GBASE-T PHY transceivers

May 11, 2009 -- Bel Fuse Inc. has unveiled its S558-10GB-XX series of 10GBASE-T LAN magnetics modules, offered to address the transmission standards of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) data over copper LANs. The company says the SMT series is capable of handling the high bandwidth needed to support the continuing convergence of voice/video/data networking, high-performance computing, and storage traffic in the enterprise and data center.

Notably meeting the IEEE 802.3an requirements for operation over 100 meters on Cat 6A/Cat 7 cabling, the series is qualified with various IC manufacturers' 10GBASE-T transceivers. Aimed at design engineers, the single-port, SMT LAN magnetics modules are for use with 1:1 turns ratio 10GBASE-T PHY chips. The low-profile devices are commonly employed in high density, high performance data services, including video over the Internet, and higher-speed network switches, routers and servers.

According to Bel, the series features excellent insertion loss, return loss and crosstalk performance to support networks' optimal performance and reliability. Electrical specifications include an isolation voltage of 1500 Vrms, and variable minimum primary inductance as dictated by PHY requirements. Operating temperature range is 0 degrees C to 70 degrees C. Additionally, the 24-pin, low-profile modules feature a 0.610" (L) X 0.480" (W) X 0.290" (H) space-saving footprint. The RoHS-compliant parts are compatible with reflow processes up to 245 degrees C peak.

Pricing for the Bel 558-10GB-XX LAN magnetics module series is $4.50 each in quantities of 1,000. For complete specifications, go to: http://www.belfuse.com/Data/Datasheets/S558-10GB-02.pdf; or http://www.belfuse.com/Data/Datasheets/S558-10GB-07.pdf.
