The STS-1/OC-1 Sonet multiplexer operates either as an STS-1 channel bank or as a fiber-optic, counter-rotating-ring, OC-1 fiber-communications system. Interfaces for voice and data allow applications such as common telecommunications, cable-TV headend communications, process control, rail transportation, and ITS highway infrastructure.
