CommScope scores at IEEE 802.3ba 40/100GE interop event

Interoperability tests determined that the Systimax LazrSPEED 550 and LazrSPEED 300 fiber optic cabling infrastructure exceed newly codified industry standards for 40, 100 Gb/s performance.

RICHARDSON, Texas -- CommScope (NYSE: CTV) announced that it recently participated in the “Plugfest” event organized by the Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) subcommittee of the Ethernet Alliance to evaluate the readiness of HSE infrastructure components and answer demands for 40 and 100 Gb/s applications in data center environments.

As one of 16 vendors that contributed equipment to be tested at Ixia’s iSimCity in Santa Clara, Calif., CommScope’s SYSTIMAX LazrSPEED 550 and LazrSPEED 300 fiber optic cabling infrastructure exceeded IEEE 802.3ba specifications for high-speed performance and effectively demonstrated interoperability with all other vendor components tested.

“CommScope's multimode fiber cabling solutions easily interoperated with all of the applicable Ixia test port and systems at the Plugfest," said Dave Schneider, Ethernet Alliance HSE subcommittee marketing chair. "The additional length that they are able to support for 40G/100G provides significant design flexibility to network designers and service providers.”

As data center applications continue to increasingly require faster Ethernet speeds, distance between network infrastructure components becomes a challenge. Event representatives said that conclusions drawn from the overwhelming success of the interoperability testing confirm that data center designers can take advantage of higher speeds without having to sacrifice engineering design or vendor choice for compatible switches, routers and test gear when working with CommScope’s fiber solutions.

“Data center operators are eager to deploy HSE applications to improve operational efficiencies, and the results of this interoperability event indicate that the 40 and 100 Gb/s Ethernet ecosystem is ready to become a reality,” said George Brooks, vice president, Data Center Business Unit, CommScope.

Brooks added, “With full participation from industry partners and vendors, the nearly 100 percent success rate concluded from the 135 tests conducted assures data center customers that there is a significant number of network infrastructure components available to support high-speed connectivity needs, and CommScope’s products can be relied on to maintain compatibility as networks evolve.”
