Switch Delivers 30 Watts of PoE Across 24 Ports Simultaneously

Omnitron Systems’ FlexSwitch products have dual uplink ports supporting up to 10 Gbits/sec and also display total PoE usage at-a-glance.

Omnitron Systems recently introduced the FlexSwitch 10GRPoE/Sx products, which are unmanaged Layer 2 switches with dual 10-Gbit uplink ports and 24 10/100/1000 RJ-45 PoE ports. “The switches provide a full 30 watts of power simultaneously to all RJ-45 user ports, ideal for transmitting power and data to IP cameras, wireless access points, VoIP phones, or other PoE-powered devices,” the company said when introducing the switches.

“Users can choose between SFP fiber uplink ports that support 1/10G SFP and SFP+ transceivers, or RJ-45 uplink ports [pictured] that support multigigabit data rates: 100 Mbits, 1 Gbit, 2.5 Gbits, 5 Gbits, and 10 Gbits,” Omnitron added. The dual uplink ports allow for redundant fiber or copper links, providing protection and restoration for critical applications, and for daisy-chaining to cascade multiple switches.

Other features of these switches include a PoE power reset function to perform power cycles, Dual Device Mode that allows operation as two logically separate switches, and Directed Switch Mode that prevents port flooding from multicast video traffic.

Models with 16 PoE+ ports and 8 Ethernet data ports, as well as models with 24 Ethernet data-only ports also are available. All models are available with either built-in AC or DC power input.

Sankar Ramachandran, vice president of engineering and product management at Omnitron Systems, commented, “With the explosion of high-draw edge devices like WiFi 7 access points and motorized pan-tilt-zoom security cameras, standard power budgets no longer cut it. By delivering a true, uncompromised 30 watts of PoE+ across all 24 ports simultaneously, our new rack-mount switch eliminates the hidden bottleneck of power rationing. We are giving network architects the ultimate peace of mind: the freedom to plug any device into any port, at any time, without ever hitting a power ceiling. The product features a unique, dynamic visual PoE power usage LED bar indicator directly on the front panel. This provides a real-time, at-a-glance percentage of the total PoE capacity being consumed, allowing IT administrators to instantly monitor system health and distribute device loads without software configuration.”

The switches are available in three temperature ranges: 0 to 50 degrees Celsius, -40 to +60 degrees Celsius, and -40 to +75 degrees Celsius.
