Rosenberger OSI adds MDC fiber connector to PreCONNECT fiber cable line

Sept. 8, 2020
MDC adapters with three or four ports can be used instead of LC duplex couplings, Rosenberger OSI points out.

Rosenberger Optical Solutions & Infrastructure (Rosenberger OSI) says it will soon offer the Miniature Duplex Connector (MDC) as part of the company’s PreCONNECT fiber cabling systems.

Use of the MDC fiber connector, which was developed by US Conec, will enable Rosenberger OSI to increase the density of its fiber cable offerings.

The MDC push-pull duplex connector is based on 1.25-mm all-ceramic ferrule technology. It is a Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) fiber connector that can be used as a media dependent interface (MDI) or optical interface for SFP-DD and QSFP-DD optical transceivers.

MDC adapters with three or four ports can be used instead of LC duplex couplings, Rosenberger OSI points out.

The integration of the MDC will enable Rosenberger OSI to offer what it calls a “Mega High Density (MHD)” option to complement the Standard Density (SD), High Density (HD), and Ultra High Density (UHD) elements of its PreCONNECT cabling systems portfolio.

“With the MDC, the port density can be doubled or tripled compared to LC duplex per 19-inch height unit, depending on the panel system, and thus decisively save space in the rack,” says Harald Jungbäck, product manager, datacenter at Rosenberger OSI. -- Stephen Hardy, Lightwave
