Harris Corp. (Melbourne, FL) has announced the acquisition of two divisions of Triplett Corp. (Bluffton, OH). The Dracon Division of Harris, based in Camarillo, CA, will receive Triplett?s product lines of test equipment for cellular and copper-based telecommunications systems. Triplett will retain its industrial instrumentation business. Recently, Harris/Dracon acquired NC-based Micro Computer Systems Inc., which manufactures centralized and loop-test equipment used by telephone companies to monitor telephone switches and lines.

FONS Corp. (Shrewsbury, MA), a manufacturer of fiber-optic patch panels, cable assemblies, adapters, attenuators and other components, has relocated to a 30,000-square-foot facility in Northborough, MA. The Electronic Industries Association, or EIA, (Arlington, VA) voted at this year?s annual meeting to promote its Consumer Electronics Group to sectoral status and change its name to the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association. The CEMA, which represents U.S. manufacturers of audio, video, home-office, mobile electronics and multimedia products, joins the Telecommunications

Industry Association as an industry sector of EIA.

Yuasa-Exide Inc. (Reading, PA) has announced the formation of its Energy Products Group in Garland, TX. Yuasa-Exide makes stationary lead-acid batteries and battery operating systems for electronics, telecommunications and other back-up power applications. The Energy Products Group will be based on a new strategic partnership with YTI Tucker Telecommunications Inc.

AFC Cable Systems (New Bedford, MA) has announced the appointment of Robert R. Wheeler as executive vice president and chief operating officer. He has 27 years? experience in the wire and cable industry and will manage AFC?s America Cable Systems, Monogram Metals and AFC Fittings operations. AFC is a manufacturer of electrical distribution products, including electrical cables, flexible wiring systems, flexible conduit and fittings for commercial, industrial and residential construction.
