Thomas & Betts (T&B--Memphis, TN), a connector and component manufacturer, has recently acquired two electrical-product manufacturing companies. In June, T&B purchased Electroline Manufacturing Co. (Cleveland, OH), which manufactures die-cast, steel, plastic, and malleable iron fittings and accessories for electrical applications. In July, the company purchased Patriot Products Inc. (Chicago, IL), which manufactures in-floor and cellular duct systems for voice, data, and power applications.
According to T&B, Electroline has a strong position in the wholesale distribution area and an emerging presence in the retail electrical market. Bill Fredrick, president of T&B`s special markets division, says the acquisition will complement and expand the company`s product offering.
Electroline will be absorbed into T&B`s electrical-components division, according to a spokesperson. Products manufactured by Electroline will maintain their brand name.
Electroline has 85 employees at its Cleveland headquarters, warehousing, and distribution facilities, and at its main manufacturing plant in Windsor, ON, Canada.
Neil Parker, president of T&B`s electrical-components group, says the Patriot purchase is a small acquisition, but that the duct product line completes T&B`s wire-management offering.
A spokesperson says Patriot was acquired primarily for the technology to manufacture the duct products. At press time, it was uncertain whether Patriot`s functions would remain in Chicago.
