David J. Asta, a resident of Palatine, IL, died suddenly on Monday, April 1 at age 58. Asta was a senior data center applications engineer with Panduit and a member of multiple industry groups and committees, including the TIA Fiber Optic Technology Consortium and BICSI’s Standards Committee. Over his 35-year career, Asta held various positions in engineering, product management, sales and marketing. He earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration.
Asta is survived by his wife Hilda, and sons Michael, Nicolas and Alexander.
In addition to his work with Panduit’s customers in data center network environments, Asta was a regular speaker at industry events and contributor to trade journals and publications. At BICSI’s Winter Conference in January 2019, he was part of a panel that delivered a seminar titled “The Fiber Formula—Fact, Fiction and Fantasy.” Immediately below is a photo of Asta posing with a Cabling Innovators Awards that Panduit received in September 2018. Asta accepted the award on behalf of Panduit for the company's OM5 Signature Core Fiber-Optic Cabling System.
