IMC Networks adds IE-MultiWay for versatile Gigabit/Fast Ethernet media conversion

The multi-function module meets a range of CPE/fiber operation demands.

LAS VEGAS -- At the 2010 BICSI Fall Conference, IMC Networks, a manufacturer of optical access and media conversion solutions for LAN, MAN and FTTx applications, announced the release of its new IE-MultiWay, a Gigabit/Fast Ethernet multi-function network device that performs several tasks for CPE/fiber operations.

The compact module is a standalone device that offers two dual-speed SFP ports and two copper 10/100/1000 Mbps twisted pair ports that can serve as a: managed fiber termination; fiber repeater; mode converter; multi-port switch and dual independent media converter.

“With the versatility of the IE-MultiWay, Network Service Providers can utilize the device’s differing modes of operations to meet a variety of functions to match their networking requirements. By purchasing a multi-function device, such as the IE-MultiWay, they can also reduce inventory requirements, resulting in a significant cost savings," comments David Zaveski, Senior Product Sales Engineer at IMC Networks.

The IE-MultiWay supports IEEE 802.3ah OAM (Operation, Administration and Management) and was designed with a simple upgrade path that is available through the company’s free software download site. In addition, the IE-MultiWay has a wide range of powering options. It offers a 5 to 24 Volt DC barrel connector and a -48 Volt DC terminal for Telco applications.

There are two AC adapter options, the IE-Power/5V power supply, permitting an extended temperature range from -40º C to +85º C, while the other provides a more compact and economical solution. An optional cable is available for purchase that permits the unit to run on the power provided by two USB ports.

The IE-MultiWay is scheduled to ship in October through IMC Networks' network of distributors. Two models are available, with and without an AC to DC power adapter, including 854-11121 listed at $740 and 858-11121 listed at $760, respectively.
