Sealed, lightweight military connectors can be cleaned thousands of times

Feb. 4, 2010
Also appropriate for medical environments, the Nemesis SC can withstand 10,000 mating cycles and 2,500 cleans.

The Nemesis SC connector from ITT Interconnect Solutions is dubbed by its manufacturer as a "super clean" connector because it is sealed but cleanable. The MIL-DTL-38999-style connectors are appropriate for modern and so-called "future soldier" applications, ITT says, and are also ideal for medical use. They will be available in Q2 this year.

Keith Teichmann, director of marketing for ITT Interconnect Solutions, explains, "The miniature, lightweight Nemesis SC connectors feature a patented pull-back barrel system that facilitates cleaning and allows the user to return the connector to full operational functionality in seconds. These connectors also feature our innovative Pogo Pin/Pad and Breakaway technologies, increasing the number of mating cycles to more than 10,000."

The blind-mateable connectors can be cleaned more than 2,500 times and are available with 7, 14, or 19 pins. They feature five locking positions and are color-coded for identification purposes. Contacts are rated at 3A. The connectors are sealed to IP67 standards in the unmated state, and resist salt spray for more than 500 hours, the manufacturer says. The Nemesis SC weighs less than 25 grams, measures less than 15 millimeters in diameter, and has an anti-reflecting coat.

ITT says a full range of circular and rectangular style connectors are also in development, to go along with this first product based on the key elements of the MIL-DTL-38999 specification.
