Connectors Stand Up to Harsh Environments and Multiple Mating Cycles
Neutrik Group Americas recently announced the True1 Data Connector Series, which comprises USB-C (mediaCON True1), RJ45 (etherCON True1), and fiber-optic (opticalCON True1) connectors. The connectors will be available in June.
As shown in the photograph on this page, the three connector types are modular in that they occupy what the company calls “a unified mechanical platform that integrates three media types into one consistent architecture.” The single mechanical platform “ensures consistent handling, streamlined system design, and simplified integration across multiple connectivity formats,” the company continues, adding that it “allows engineers and system designers to standardize panel layouts and workflows while supporting a wide range of signal types.”
The USB-C connector offers USB 3.2 Gen 1x1 performance, supporting up to 5-Gbit/sec transmission along with USB power delivery up to 100W. The RJ45 connector is Category 6A rated, supporting 10-Gbit Ethernet. And the optical connector is available in multimode or singlemode.
Neutrik Group Americas introduced the connector series in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show, indicating the series’ appropriateness for use in applications such as temporary networks and mobile production environments, in addition to fixed installations. “This series delivers secure, high-speed connectivity in environments where durability, ease of integration, and operational reliability are essential,” the company pointed out.
To that end, the True1 Data Connector Series “is engineered for applications where mechanical stress, environmental exposure, and frequent mating cycles are part of daily operation,” Neutrik Group Americas added. Features include IP65/66/67 ingress protection ratings in mated and locked condition, along with 1440 hours of salt-spray corrosion resistance, UV-resistant materials, and an air-tight design for the RJ45 and USB-C versions. “These functional elements make the True1 Data Connector Series ideally suited for outdoor productions, OB [outside broadcast] vans, remote broadcast operations, rental staging, touring, and temporary indoor or outdoor installations,” the company boasted.
They also feature a locking cable connector that enables 1-hand operation, color-coding options, as well as replaceable and customizable sealing caps.
