Category 6A Systimax LSZH riser rated UTP cables added to company's GigaSPEED X10D, GigaSPEED XL and PowerSUM copper platforms.

RICHARDSON, Texas -- As part of an ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable buildings and environmentally-friendly engineering, communications networks infrastructure supplier CommScope has added what it says is the industry's first Category 6A Systimax LSZH [Low Smoke Zero Halogen] riser rated unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cables to its high-performance GigaSPEED X10D, GigaSPEED XL and PowerSUM copper solutions.

With reduced toxicity and removal of all halogens, CommScope says its LSZH Riser Rated UTP cables offer improved fire safety and eliminate the production of heavy, black smoke in the event of a fire – unlike common polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cables. Additionally, the absence of restricted substances including lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium (Cr-VI), polybrominated biphenyl (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) increases the environmental safety of the cables. This is in accordance with the UK’s National Measurement Office’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommendations as well as National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and Green Building Council specifications.

“Cabling plays a significant role in the backbone and physical layer infrastructure of any building, and it’s critical for that backbone to comply with fire safety regulations without posing a threat to the environment by eliminating the use of harmful flame-retardant toxins,” said Morgan Kurk, senior vice president, Enterprise Intelligent Buildings, CommScope.

Kurk added, “At CommScope, we believe environmental stewardship should support preservation of global resources without sacrificing performance or technology. Combining low-smoke, halogen-free structured cabling engineering with our environmentally-friendly packaging design, our Systimax LSZH Riser Rated UTP cables further the evolution of sustainable building today while supporting the next-generation communications needs of tomorrow.”

Now available throughout the Americas, the new LSZH Riser Rated UTP cables feature flexible jackets for easy installation and environmentally-friendly, 100 percent recyclable and biodegradable packaging. CommScope’s LSZH copper solutions meet electrical verification standards for Category 6A, Category 6 and Category 5e enterprise environments as well as the UL444 Communications Cables Standard for Safety.
