HiWire Consortium adds 2 new members in run-up to OCP Virtual Summit

May 6, 2020
The group's focus is to standardize interconnect for Distributed, Disaggregated Chassis (DDC) routers.

The HiWire Consortium, a non-profit corporation supporting the advancement and adoption of HiWire Active Electrical Cables (AECs), has announced two new consortium members. The increased membership will help the organization to drive standardization of interconnect for Distributed, Disaggregated Chassis (DDC) routers around the HiWire Active Electrical Cable (AEC) standard.

New members DriveNets and UfiSpace will join existing HiWire Consortium members Credo and Keysight in collaborating to stand up the first public demonstration of the DDC model as proposed to the Open Compute Project (OCP) by AT&T. The demonstration and a corresponding presentation will be shown at the OCP Virtual Summit, May 12-15. This demo will be showcased in the OCP Virtual Experience Center.

“DriveNets’ Network Cloud customers are seeing great benefits in using HiWire AECs for DDC interconnect both technically and economically,” said Ido Susan, CEO of DriveNets. “We look forward to working with HiWire Consortium toward the proliferation of AECs in DDC applications.”

“We’re seeing strong interest in HiWire AECs with our DDC switching and routing products from cloud and service provider customers,” added Vincent Ho, CEO of UfiSpace. “Proliferating the HiWire AEC standard via the HiWire Consortium will help accelerate and drive DDC adoption.”

HiWire Consortium is facilitating the development of high-quality compatible HiWire AEC devices and promoting end-user demand for HiWire AEC products through increased public awareness. Membership includes Accton, Alpha Networks, Arrcus, Intel, Barefoot, BizLink, Cameo, Canaan, Centec, Chelsio, Credo, Dell EMC, Delta, DriveNets, EDOM Technology, FoxLink, Innovium, Inventec, Juniper, Keysight Technologies, Quanta Computer, QCT, Senao Networks Inc., Spirent, Steligent, UfiSpace, UL, Wistron, WNC, and wiwynn.

“Teamwork is a key component at the heart of the HiWire Consortium,” said Sheng Huang, President of the HiWire Consortium. “This disaggregated routing demonstration is the just the beginning of the DDC roll out in large scale data centers and carrier networks.”

The organization notes that its AEC product was previously featured as part of the first live DDC demonstration ever recorded. For more information, visit www.hiwire.org.
