Swedish optical connectivity developer Pro Optix has announced a pair of new WDM series platforms. The company asserts that its Pro MINI high-density series and the Pro NANO ultra-high-density series provide data center network operators with densities that are 300% and 600% greater, respectively, than traditional WDM alternatives.
The Pro MINI modular multiplexer series uses LC connectors to enable support of up to 54 CWDM channels or 48 DWDM channels within 1RU.
Significantly, Pro Optix has partnered with Senko Advanced Components to leverage the latter’s CS connectors to enable the modular and fixed Pro NANO multiplexer series to support up to 108 CWDM channels or 120 DWDM channels within the same form factor.
With both WDM series focused on 1RU packaging, users can mix Pro MINI and Pro NANO modular cassettes and CWDM and DWDM, which offers flexibility and scalability through the ability to quickly swap modules, as noted by Pro Optix. The passive systems do not require power and can be either rack- or wall-mounted.
“xWDM multiplexing was once seen as a complicated solution that required a team of experts, but that vision has changed,” observes Tom Nordin, CEO at Pro Optix. "It is now understood that multiplexing is a simple way to quickly enhance how a business utilizes fiber effectively, and this is enhanced by the fact that the solution is passive and therefore requires no power."
Nordin concludes, “Although the design of the multiplexer is new, the components within the design are proven technologies, so customers can immediately have a robust and reliable solution.”
