Silicon photonics to re-vamp the data center?

April 1, 2013
Luxtera's vice present of marketing, Chris Bergey, will deliver a presentation, Redesigning the Data Center with Silicon Photonics, at the Ethernet Technology Summit 2013.

Luxtera, a specialist in CMOS-based silicon photonics technology for optical communications, announced its participation in the 4th Annual Ethernet Technology Summit, April 2-4 at the Santa Clara Marriot. Chris Bergey, vice president of marketing for Luxtera, will deliver a presentation entitled Redesigning the Data Center with Silicon Photonics on Wednesday, April 3 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:50 a.m., during the event's "Forum 1B" event on Ethernet in data centers.

“Silicon CMOS Photonics continues to move into mainstream market sectors by enabling flexibility, scalability and throughput, for truly universal optical connectivity," comments Bergey. "At this year’s Ethernet Summit, we look forward to discussing how we are best equipped to support high-performance data centers insatiable demand for low-cost bandwidth.”

Silicon CMOS photonics technology is set to figure in as a disruptive technology for data center networking and computing demands, contends the company. The presentation by Luxtera will present the opportunities around Silicon CMOS photonics and how the technology will solve issues of today and tomorrow inside the data center, paving the way from 100Gb to 400Gb bandwidth, and beyond.

Luxtera presents its silicon CMOS photonics technology as a key enabler of next generation data centers, as it offers "reach-agnostic solutions that deliver best-in-class cost and power per bit for 40 GbE and 100 GbE links." In support of current market patterns, cabling, fabrics, and the emergence of 40 GbE and 100 GbE deployments, Luxtera says its technology provides the scalability and flexibility for optimal performance in data centers of all dimensions and metrics.

“Luxtera continues to deliver -- in volume -- innovative Silicon CMOS Photonics technology for the industry, and we are delving deeper into mass market segments,” adds Luxtera’s Bergey.
