Fed data center reduction: Spend now to save later?

In order to save money in the long run, the government will have to spend billions in the short term, and this can only mean good news for data center contractors, speculates a new article.

"The Obama administration's initiative to consolidate federal data centers will result in a burst of spending by the government to transfer data and infrastructure to new locations," writes E-Commerce Times' John K. Higgins in his recent Government IT Report.

"In order to save money in the long run, the government will have to spend billions in the short term, and [data center] contractors see the trend continuing," contends Higgins, noting that the reduction initiative's overall goal is to cut the number of federal data centers by about 40 percent.
