February 13, 2009 -- RTKL Associates Inc. has acquired Strategic Facilities Inc. (SFI), a consulting firm specializing in providing commissioning and operations support of mission critical facilities to clients nationwide.
The firm and its principals, including majority owner David M. DiQuinzio, PE, have become part of RTKL's Baltimore-based Applied Technology Group, which provides integrated architecture and engineering services for mission-critical, technology intensive operations.
"When it comes to commissioning, SFI is a recognized leader in the data center market," comments R. Stephen Spinazzola, PE, LEED AP, vice president of RTKL. "This acquisition not only expands our capabilities, but it also adds a top-tier team of talent - that we've already worked with - to our roster. It's an excellent fit and we're looking forward to launching our expanded commissioning practice."
SFI was founded in 1996 to satisfy underserved needs for critical facility site assessment, project planning, reliability analysis, failure investigation, commissioning and operations support. Under the direction of DiQuinzio, who joined the firm in 1997, the firm built a reputation for innovative, thoughtful and diligent work among a select group of financial, institutional and commercial clients. DiQuinzio became the majority owner in 2008.
"Maintaining a market-leading commissioning group requires the depth of resources that RTKL brings to the table," says DiQuinzio, who joins RTKL as principal and director of commissioning services. "When SFI was started, it was one of a handful of firms that specialized in mission-critical, and it was among the first to offer comprehensive third-party commissioning programs. This acquisition will allow us to apply the methods and processes we've perfected over the past decade on a much larger scale, and expand into new markets, as part of RTKL's world-class organization."
DiQuinzio will spearhead the newly integrated commissioning group. He has more than 20 years of engineering experience, with clients ranging from Fortune 500 corporations to small, privately-held firms throughout the country.
