In 100G+ test space, Tektronix buys Optametra

July 28, 2011
Test equipment will help define systems that ultimately could be deployed in data centers.

Tektronix, a supplier of test and measurement equipment, has acquired Optametra, LLC, a company that focuses on coherent testing for 100-Gbit/sec and higher speeds. (Read about coherent optical testing, and analysis of this acquisition, at our sister site, Lightwave.)

In March 2009 Optometra introduced a coherent signal analyzer for 40G testing, and later that year introduced an analyzer for 100G testing. A release from Tektronix announcing the acquisition said, "The Optametra Signal Analysis Suite offers the most relevant information display, most relevant modulation formats, and widest linewidth tolerance."

Tektronix presdient Amir Aghdaei said, "The emergence of coherent optical standards is creating a technology shift in the communications market and new testing challenges are emerging. Combing Optametra with our next generation of performance oscilloscopes enables us to address this market with a robust solution for our customers."
