Data center efficiency explained in Anixter paper

Aug. 19, 2010
The paper's best-practice recommendations cover cooling systems, pathways, UPS and PDU devices as well as system right-sizing.

A white paper from Anixter details strategies, best practices and recommendations for data center infrastructure deployment that can result in energy efficiency. The paper defines and explains efficiency metrics such as PUE, then discusses the impact that infrastructure devices including UPS systems, transformers and PDUs have on data center efficiency.

The paper also discusses cooling infrastructures and pathways, citing examples of facilities that have improved their energy efficiency. The final third of the paper is devoted to best practices and site-infrastructure recommendations. It suggests right-sizing infrastructure systems and specific cooling strategies, and explains the environmental impacts of improving data center efficiency.
