Large-size conduit for robotic and automation applications

Thomas and Betts’ PMA XR90 line of multilayered conduit now includes sizes up to NW 70 and metric 80 to protect a wider range of cable.

Thomas and Betts recently expanded its line of PMA XR90 multilayered conduit to include sizes up to NW 70 and metric 80, protecting a greater range of cable for robotic and automation applications, the company said.

“PMA XR90 multilayered conduit indicates the extent of surface wear with three concentric layers of nylon 12, each a different color,” Thomas and Betts said. “With no wear, PMA XR90 multilayered conduit retains its black surface. As wear occurs, the center layer begins to show its yellow surface, which is an alert to prepare for maintenance. As more abrasion occurs, the inner layer shows its red surface, which indicates that maintenance is required. This visual inspection capability makes it more efficient to monitor wear and provide planning certainty for maintenance. These features help reduce costs by reducing maintenance time and use of spare parts.”

PMA XR90 is made of abrasion-resistant nylon 12 and offers a service life of up to 10 million cycles, the company added.

Thomas and Betts explained that other benefits of the multilayered conduit include “its selection of support brackets, half shells and tube clamps, providing a complete cable protection solution. They are easy to fit and offer space-saving designs that enable running cable in maneuverable automation applications,” the company said. “The half shells and tube clamps offer lower mechanical load, which reduces torsion. The capability to monitor conduit wear in advance of failure not only makes maintenance more efficient and economical, it also avoids safety hazards created by exposed wiring.”
