FOA publishes Outside Plant Construction Guide

March 17, 2016
Available in paperback and Kindle versions, the Outside Plant Construction Guide from the Fiber Optic Association is designed for the contractor, installer, and designer.

The Fiber Optic Association recently published Outside Plant Construction Guide, which is available in paperback and e-book formats. “This is an up-to-date reference on outside plant fiber-optic construction for the contractor, installer, designer, and for use with The FOA Reference Guide to Outside Plant Fiber optics for training courses, or studying for FOA CFOS/O and other certification,” the FOA said when announcing the book’s publication and availability.

The Outside Plant Construction Guide is a reference book and textbook for FOA OSP certification classes; it is based on and complementary to the FOA Online Reference Guide. The guide is arranged logically for teaching installers and technicians, the FOA notes.

Priced at $14.95 in paperback and $7.95 in Kindle e-book, the guide is available through the FOA eStore or Amazon.

“This textbook is a detailed guide to outside plant fiber-optic construction,” the FOA commented. “It includes the processes used for installing the fiber-optic cable plant, starting with the construction work necessary before the fiber-optic cable is installed and the techs begin splicing, terminating and testing the cable plant. Topics covered include trenching for underground construction, installing poles for aerial cables, directional boring, etc.”

Joe Botha of Triple Play Fibre Optic Solutions in South Africa authored the guide as a textbook for classes he teaches on construction. “Joe, an FOA Master Instructor, created the course to fill a need for training OSP construction crews,” the association recalled. “The book covers topics which are in the textbooks—practical solutions to designing and installing the fiber-optic cable plant. It is an extremely valuable reference book for all owners, designers, supervisors and installers of fiber-optic OSP networks.”

Outside Plant Construction Guide is part of the set of the FOA fiber-optic reference guides, which also include The FOA Reference Guide to Outside Plant Fiber Optics, The FOA Reference Guide to Fiber Optics, and The FOA Reference Guide to Premises Cabling.

You can purchase the book from the FOA eStore here, or from Amazon here.
