NetProwler combines TDR, network-discovery capabilities

May 13, 2014
The new tool from T3 Innovation performs cable tests like opens, shorts and distance along with network discovery, ping test and connectivity test.

NetProwler, the newest troubleshooting tool from T3 Innovation, combined time-domain reflectometry (TDR) capability and network-discovery features. The company describes it as “a valuable piece of test equipment for computer network technicians and IT workers. This multi-function 3-in-1 tester,” the company continues, “makes time-consuming tasks like setting up and troubleshooting networks faster and easier than ever before.”

Network-test features include:

  • Active IPv4 and IPv6 network discovery
  • Link protocol detection
  • Ping testing
  • Regular and rogue DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server discovery
  • DNS (Domain Name System) discovery
  • Internet connectivity

The LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) identifies Ethernet switch capabilities, while IP discovery tests and displays a network’s existing IP devices, T3 Innovation further explains.

The full-function TDR tester verifies and tracks cable integrity for shorts, opens and miswired connectors, the company says, as well as checking the distance of Category 3/5/6 as well as coaxial cables.

Ron Vogel, chief executive officer of T3 Innovation, commented, “Net Prowler presents the most up-to-date feature set for accessing and understanding network conditions and physical-layer information. Its ability to see network conditions and settings, make crucial tests, save and report these tests is unrivaled in products costing twice as much. Net Prowler delivers great value and amazing capabilities when it comes to network transparency and functionality.”

A USB interface facilitates the download of free Net Prowler Controller software from the T3 Innovation website. The software enables users to keep track of test results for review and archiving. Test results also can be downloaded from Net Prowler and saved in the app or exported s screenshots and PDF documents for print, the company says.
