Inspector provides two-second pass/fail assessment for fiber endfaces

FiberInspector Pro from Fluke Networks certifies to IEC 61300-3-35.

The FI-7000 FiberInspector Pro from Fluke Networks delivers a two-second assessment of fiber endfaces and determines whether they pass or fail the IEC 61300-3-35. That standard specifies the inspection of fiber-optic connector endfaces, establishing pass/fail limits based on defects and scratches.

“The FI-7000 inspects the fiber connector’s endface, analyzing the fiber core, cladding, adhesive layer and contact surface for damage and defects before generating a pass/fail designation per IEC 61300-3-35,” Fluke networks said when announcing the new product. “The FI-7000 also incorporates advanced analysis software to highlight detected damage and defects, which makes contaminated areas easier to identify.”

Jason Wilbur, vice president and general manager of Fluke Networks’ datacom cabling installation business unit, commented, “A fiber network failure or latent problems can cost millions to a large data center or enterprise, to say nothing of the time and effort wasted on finger-pointing and subjective, manual inspection. The FI-7000 takes the guesswork out of fiber endface testing while cutting inspection time to two seconds or less. What’s more, it leverages our powerful Versiv Cabling Certification platform, increasing the overall value to our customers.”

Owners of the existing Versiv FiberInspector tool can upgrade to the FI-7000’s capabilities at no charge with a firmware update.
