LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Beacon Enterprise Solutions Group, Inc., a specialist in the design, implementation and management of high performance Information Technology Systems (ITS) infrastructure, has announced a new contract with a Department of Defense (DoD) contractor as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act of 2005.
The Base Realignment and Closure Act of 2005 (“BRAC”) enables the DoD to realize greater efficiencies and promote transformation by realigning infrastructure with future defense strategy. BRAC-directed activities seek to eliminate excess physical capability to maximize operational capability and allow the DoD to make available much-needed funding for weapon system recapitalization and technological investment.

Beacon has been chosen to assist with the ITS infrastructure solutions at one of the DoD’s facilities to perform quality control assessments and implement standards which are compliant with BICSI, the preeminent educational, credentialing organization and standards body supporting the ITS industry. As part of these efforts, Beacon has recommended additional telecommunication rooms be added to the DoD facility to ensure the horizontal cabling lengths meet BICSI standards.
In addition, Beacon is implementing quality control measures on both the fiber optic and copper cabling for the horizontal and backbone infrastructure within the client’s facility. Opened in 1917, this particular DoD location is one of the largest, most diverse, and organizationally complex bases of all DoD facilities with a work force of approximately 25,700 people, 10,000 of which are civilians.
Jerry Bowman, COO of Beacon Solutions, commented, “Implementing the BICSI standards within this DoD facility will result in a communication infrastructure system that is managed with consistency, predictability and quality of design. We are pleased to have been selected to participate in this project, and to have been recognized by the contractor as the ideal solutions provider.” Bowman is currently the President-elect of BICSI.
“We are excited to build new relationships with Department of Defense contractors and implement industry-leading ITS solutions for the DoD,” added Bruce Widener, CEO of Beacon Solutions. “Each of our engagements with the DoD has been successful, and we look forward to implementing the BICSI standards to meet DoD specifications. This engagement is another example of Beacon’s key role in the global ITS industry as it trends towards single-source solutions to manage ITS infrastructure needs.”
