Dewalt has opened its Trades Scholarship to support skilled trade and construction workers in fields such as construction technology, electrical, and plumbing. For this year the program will award $200,000 across the U.S. and Canada to 40 students that are either in a trade degree program or are getting a certificate at a two-year college or vocational-technical school.
This annual scholarship program is part of Stanley Black & Decker’s $30 million commitment to growing trades by 2027. Frank Mannarino, President, Power Tools Group, Stanley Black & Decker stated, “With more than 350,000 current job openings in the construction field alone, it is critical that we work to develop a strong pipeline of talent for the skilled trades,” He goes on to note the skilled trade shortage and how the goal of the scholarship is to bring educational opportunities to create a strong workforce of experts.
Former scholarship recipients’ pursuits were across a broad spectrum, from construction technology and welding to automotive technology and aviation maintenance.
Applications for the scholarship are open to high school seniors, high school graduates, or current college undergraduate students who are planning to enroll full-time in an undergraduate study program at an accredited two-year college or vocational technical school for the upcoming academic year. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.
Other qualifying fields for the program include carpentry, diesel technology, fire science, HVAC, and much more.
