More on "Catagory 5 supports ATM"

Q: The ATM Forum set its standard for certifying ATM cable installations at the Category 5 requirements stated in Telecommunications Systems Bulletin 67, including 100-MHz bandwidth. It is important to understand that testing to 100 MHz, and not to 155 MHz, certifies the cable to support high-speed applications such as ATM. This additional clarification lets end users focus on getting the job done.

As a supplier of Category 5 testers, I am glad to have the record set straight. Unbiased input and the ATM Forum let those involved know that 100 MHz meets the needs of both Category 5 and ATM.

A: There was no mention of TSB-67 in either TR41.8.1 Working Group`s letter to the ATM Forum or in the ATM Forum Technical Committee`s response. In the ATM response, the committee seemed satisfied with Annex E, and there are no requirements for testing in Annex E.
