The Siemon Co. (Watertown, CT) has acquired the fiber-optic division of Advanced Custom Applications (ACA-Belle Mead, NJ). ACA holds several patents in fiber-optic connection technology, including mechanical splice and fusion splice sleeves. The Siemon Co. has acquired ACA's intellectual property, manufacturing capabilities, and inventory.

"ACA's products and technology complement Siemon's current fiber products and research-and-development programs," says Carl Siemon, president of The Siemon Co. "This allows us to immediately expand the range of our current connectivity line and advance new-product development using ACA's technology.

"The ACA team has done a great job developing innovative singlemode and multimode fiber products," he continued. "The technology and patents are a good fit for advancing Siemon technology leadership goals."

Three products acquired in the deal are MASSsleeve, ULTRAsleeve, and ULTRAsplice. MASSsleeve is a fiber fusion-splice protection cover that does not require heat shrinking, curing, crimping, or gluing. The protector can accept mass or ribbon cable with 2 to 12 fibers. ULTRAsleeve is also a protection cover for fusion splices without the need for heat shrinking, curing, crimping or gluing. This product can accept a range of fiber buffer sizes from 250 to 900 microns for a single fiber, and up to a 4-fiber mass or ribbon cable. And ULTRAsplice is a mechanical fiber-optic splice that contains a glass capillary alignment tube preloaded with matching index gel, to allow inspection of fiber location during installation. A set of locking nuts lets users adjust and secure the fiber. The product is tunable and reusable for emergency or permanent installations.

More information on the products newly acquired by The Siemon Co. is available at www.siemon.com/aca.
