The LT 8600 handheld cable tester tests to 300 megahertz, exceeding the proposed requirements to test Category 6 cabling to 250 MHz. The unit performs tests such as power-sum near-end crosstalk, power-sum attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio, and power-sum equal-level far-end crosstalk. Supporting 15 different tests, individually or in a test suite, the device also supports identification of distance-to-fault, has options for singlemode and multimode fiber-optic testing, and options for talkset capabilities. Other options include a set of two 110-block adapters, a set of two Token Ring adapters, a battery charger, an extra nickel metal hydride battery, and a hard carrying case.
The unit can store 1500 Category 5 autotests, handles unshielded twisted-pair, screened twisted-pair, foiled twisted-pair, coaxial, and ibm shielded twisted-pair cable Types 1, 2, and 6. Typical battery life is eight hours. The display unit weighs 1.75 pounds, and the remote unit weighs 1.6 lb.
The company`s investment-protection program allows owners of other products in the LT 8000 series to upgrade to the LT 8600.
