Preterminated ribbon cable

Feb. 1, 1999
The ReelDeal System is preterminated 12-fiber cabling that the manufacturer says reduces installation time and labor costs. It includes 450 feet of ribbon cable using 12 Corning InfiniCor 300 multimode fibers and is terminated with a single miniature 12-fiber mtp connector. The cable is wound onto a reel incorporated into a rack-mountable housing. Installers mount the ReelDeal System housing, pull out sufficient cable from the reel, and plug the mtp connector into the remote module.

Both the system housing and remote module incorporate either 12 duplex SC adapters or 12 ST-compatible adapters to provide interconnection to network components with standard patch cords. To change or redeploy the link, unplug the mtp connector and retract the cable into the reel. The housing can be relocated and the cable pulled to a new destination. The system was developed by Siecor in conjunction with distributor Anixter Inc. (Skokie, IL).
