A conference that will grapple with emerging trends for voice, video, and data infrastructure/transmission will welcome a keynote speaker/author renowned for processing radical change in all types of businesses and organizations.
David "Lefty" Lefkowith, author of the online book Portfolio of Change that considers the dynamics of dealing with a changing industry-everything from performance management to launching new business ventures-will open the Tuesday morning session at the BICSI Fall Conference, Aug. 21 to 24, in Nashville's Opryland Hotel Conven-tion Center.
As part of the changes-in-the-wind theme, a members-only technical seminar asks, "Residential Cabling Infrastructure-Are You Ready?" Overall, the conference will address the latest trends and issues that impact the design and installation of telecommunications infrastructure in commercial and multifamily residential buildings.
Among the presentations will be such topics as convergence: what it means for the small to mid-sized business; emerging technologies-status and direction; and online cabling management-the name of the new game.
Also featured will be Category 6-related issues such as the effects of return loss, and on-the-job topics such as the pitfalls of installation practices and contemporary wire and cable management for today's workstations.
Concluding Tuesday afternoon's general sessions will be a panel discussion on fiber in the premises, featuring Robert Steger, RCDD, of Fiber Optic Technologies; Ron Schreiber, RCDD, of George Washington University; Mark Taylor of Fluke Networks; Jim Hayes of Fotec Inc.; and Paul Kolesar of Lucent Technologies.
The BICSI Fall Conference, trade exhibits, and educational courses are co-sponsored by the University of Utah. Conference details, including registration information and industry exhibitors, are available at www.bicsi.org.
