The PM-1600 high-speed power meter is suitable for R&D, qualification or production testing of fiber-optic components, and characterization of optical switches. With a choice of one or two indium-gallium-arsenide photodetectors, the unit provides two types of synchronization triggers. A power-level trigger can start an acquisition when the power incident to the detector reaches a threshold. A TTL voltage trigger uses the external trigger connection to start an acquisition. Synchronization of both optical channels (in the case of the 2-channel model) is simultaneous for the two triggers. The photo-detector stabilizes within 15 milliseconds for power fluctuations up to 95 decibels, and a continuous sampling rate reaching 256 samples per second is achieved with high-performance automatic-gain-control algorithms.
