The Telecommunications Project Management Association (TPMA; www.telpm.org), a professional organization of project managers in the telecommunications and information technology industries, has expanded its Project Management certification programs and is also offering new training options.

In addition to current Telecommunications Project Management (TPM) certification, new programs include project manager, as well as project manager certification for outside plant, wireless, data center, CATV, security and access control, and global networks/IT.

Traditional five-day certification classes are being joined by a new “melded” Internet and hands-on program designed to let students take 60% of the program and associated exams at home or office via Internet. A two-day hands-on program and a case study exam completes the melded program. Templates created for the case study portion of the exam are designed so that students can use them later on an actual project.

Project management certification is increasingly becoming a requirement for bidding on major installation projects, and TPMA says its programs make it easier to become certified or gain additional certifications. All exams are open-book and are designed to be practical demonstrations of project management skills.

TPMA is a BICSI corporate member, and its program is approved for 35 continuing education credits (CECs) for RCDD, NTS, OSP, WD; and 12 CECs for ITS installer, technician and residential installer.

Visit the TPMA Web site for registration and cost.
