Fast Ethernet converters

Dec. 1, 1998
The latest media converters in Ortronics`s TransOptix line allow for short-wavelength transmission (in the 850-nanometer operating window) for 100-megabit-per-second Fast Ethernet. The TransOptix line supports both short- and long-wavelength Fast Ethernet transmission, as well as short- and long-wavelength 10-Mbit/sec Ethernet transmission.

The converters are installed in the computer and interconnect with existing 10Base-T- or 100Base-T-compatible network interface cards. No software changes to any local area network (lan) drivers are required. Ortronics says that by using existing lan cards and hubs, the original equipment investment is protected. And because the converters are internal to the computer, there is no requirement for an external plug-in power supply. For consumers who do not have the appropriate card slot on their computers, external versions are available.
