Wavetek`s LT 8000 series of local area network (lan) cable testers includes three testers, each of which is directed toward a specific segment of the cabling installation marketplace, the manufacturer says. Priced at $1995, the LT 8000 tester measures to 100 megahertz, stores the last test performed, and provides a simple pass/fail result. The unit contains ac/dc adapters for battery recharging and includes channel adapters. The tester can be used for in-house verification, troubleshooting, and moves, adds, and changes.
The LT 8100 tests small jobs. It stores 150 autotests, provides supporting data with failure results, includes PC software for test management and reporting, and comes with a carrying case. Retail price is $2495. According to Wavetek, the unit is suitable for entry-level installers who carry out small projects and wish to minimize the initial investment in a tester.
The LT 8155 tests to 155 megahertz and stores 500 autotests. It includes graphical plots as well as supporting data in conjunction with its pass/fail results; conducts headroom, power-sum near-end crosstalk, and power-sum attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio measurements; and has a delete-recovery option. The tester also customizes test suites and supports as many as four remote units and a fiber-optic option. It comes with AC adapters, a carrying case, and PC software. Priced at $3995, the device is designed for advanced installers and in-house cabling professionals within large organizations.
