Wired-to-wireless lan link

Feb. 1, 1998
The Wireless Backbonelink from Radio-lan lets wireless local area network (lan) users transmit traffic between wireless and hard-wired lans at 10 megabits per second. The manufacturer claims that the device distinguishes itself from other wired-to-wireless bridging solutions because it provides 10-Mbit/sec speed instead of the 1- to 2-Mbit/sec speeds other equipment achieves.

The unit measures 7x165 4x165 11/2 inches and is priced at $999. It has one wired Ethernet-standard-compliant interface and one Radiolan wireless interface. In addition to bridging wireless traffic to a wired network, the link acts as a wireless transceiver, allowing network devices such as workstations, printers, bridges, and routers to participate in the wireless network.

The link comes with the manufacturer`s Radionet Backbone Manager, a software package that allows a network manager to perform configuration and management tasks from any point on the network.
