Jan. 24, 2002
January 22, 2002--The company also announces an agreement under which its equipment can be housed inside Herman Miller office furniture.

Corning Cable Systems (CCS--www.corning.com/cablesystems) has introduced a product based on the emerging 'tiny TR' concept. The Active Zone Box is a multi-user telecommunications distribution facility that allows up to 48 ports of active electronics and 48 ports of fiber or copper patch panels. The box includes a large cable entry and an environmental seal to prevent dust and liquid penetration.

The box can be mounted in a standard 2x2- and 2x4-foot drop ceiling tile openings. It accepts all 19-inch patch, punchdown panels and rack-mountable hubs, switches, and routers.

CCS simultaneously announced its LANscape Solutions for Fiber in the Horizontal. The Active Zone Box is part of the Media Zone Solution product set, which also includes the company's MIC cable, fiber zone box hardware, and UniCam MT-RJ, LC, and SC connectors.

The Media Station Solution is also part of CCS's Fiber in the Horizontal line. It includes MIC cable, the UniCam QuickPress connector, Desk-Link Outlet, and UniCam MT-RJ, LC, and SC connectors.

The company said it expects to release a wireless solution next year.

Additionally, CCS announced an agreement with office-furniture maker Herman Miller (www.hermanmiller.com), under which some of the newly announced Fiber in the Horizontal products will be housed inside Herman Miller's office furniture.
