January 22, 2002--Residents will get voice, Internet, and entertainment services in this trial deployment.
The New York City-based RBOC Verizon Communications will deploy a Marconi technology to provide optical fiber delivery of voice, Internet and entertainment services to residents of the community of Brambleton, Va. Verizon's fiber-to-the-home trial network is expected to serve homes in the first phase of the development in Brambleton. The offering, built on Marconi's Deep Fiber FTH-1000 system, delivers access to almost limitless bandwidth resulting in instant Internet connection and faster download.
The technology will allow Verizon's customers in the Brambleton development to immediately gain access to multi-line telephone service, a video entertainment package and always-on Internet access. In addition, customers' homes will be ready for services such as electronic commerce, online gaming and enhanced video security. Marconi has been working with Verizon for the past two years on the product definition phase of this project to provide a custom-designed product. The result is a converged network offering capable of delivering multiple services from a single platform. For more information, visit www.verizon.com.
