BICSI Cabling Workshop and Cabling Installation Expo approaching

Sept. 17, 2002
Sept. 17, 2002 - Seventh annual event will begin Oct. 22.

The seventh annual BICSI Cabling Workshop and Cabling Installation Expo, Oct. 22-24 at Rhode Island Convention Center (Providence, RI), will feature three days of in-depth training and information on state-of-the-art developments in the cabling industry, combined with a variety of cabling installation activities throughout the week.

In addition to nearly two-dozen workshops, cabling installers and contractors can register for several BICSI-led installation classes held throughout the week. Co-sponsored by BICSI (www.bicsi.org)
and Cabling Installation & Maintenance (www.cable-install.com), Workshop/Expo kicks off with a grand networking reception on Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m., with other exhibit hall hours on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"In the six years that BICSI and Cabling Installation & Maintenance have partnered on this event, thousands of attendees have visited the exhibit floor to find the right tools, technologies and techniques that they can take to the job site to help them do their jobs more efficiently," says Patrick McLaughlin, chief editor for Cabling Installation & Maintenance. "This year will be no different."

The opening workshops begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 with six general sessions focusing on the installation and business of cabling. A majority of breakout sessions on Wednesday will be repeated on Thursday.

"The workshop programs aimed at contractors will provide a multi-dimensional educational opportunity," says McLaughlin. "Sessions will cover business issues, including estimating and managing change orders; on-the-job issues like grounding, designing backboard layouts, and conducting wireless site surveys; and macro-type issues, such as standards updates and reviews."

BICSI telecommunications classes to be offered include exams at Installer Level 1, Installer Level 2, and Technician, which will be held following the conference on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26. RCDD, RCDD/LAN Specialty, and RCDD/OSP Specialty exams will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22. These require separate registration and fees (to register, visit www.bicsi.org.
