IEEE Assembly elects five officers

Dec. 3, 2002 - Each will serve a one-year term on the Board of Directors.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Assembly has elected five officers.

The officers will serve a one-year term on the IEEE Board of Directors beginning Jan. 1, 2003. The officers are:

* James Tien, vice president, Educational Activities Board. Tien is a professor and chairman of the Decision Sciences and Engineering Systems Department of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
* Michael Lightener, vice president, Publication Services and Products Board. Lightener is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
* W. Cleon Anderson, vice president, Regional Activities Board. Anderson is chief project engineer at L-3 Communications Systems-West in Salt Lake City, Utah.
* Levent Onural, secretary. Onural is professor of electrical and electronics engineering at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.
* Pedro Ray, treasurer. Ray is president of Ray Architects & Engineers in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

These officers will serve with those previously elected by the members in the recent IEEE elections.

The Board of Directors also selected three candidates for the post of 2004 president elect, the election for which will be held in November 2003. The candidates are Cleon Anderson; Vijay Bhargava, Canada Research chairman in Wireless Communication at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada; and Lightner.
