Installers can learn about the fundamentals of optical fiber and the devices needed for its installation through a two-day course that will be offered in San Francisco this fall.
The course will be offered by Silicon Valley Photonics and UC Berkeley Extension. It will be held Oct. 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UC Berkeley Extension Downtown Center, 425 Market St., San Francisco.
This two-day course will introduce students to the fundamentals of optical fiber and
fiber-optic devices. It is designed to demystify this technology for
non-technical as well as technical people.
Attendees will gain an understanding of the essential concepts and terminology of optical fiber technology. The course will show how the technology works and how it's manufactured. It will also introduce students to the key industry players, how photonic devices are combined to make larger systems, and optical fiber's practical limitations.
Those who wish to enroll can call 510-642-4151 or e-mail [email protected]. The college Web site is www.unex.Berkeley.edu/eng.
