Tyco Electronics has announced a June release date for AMPTRAC, a software-ready intelligent structured connectivity management system for automating the management of the physical layer.
The system consists of the company's AMP NETCONNECT (www.ampnetconnect.com) premises cabling combined with proprietary patch panels, patch cords, sensors, analyzers and other accessories needed to deploy real-time network monitoring software from iTRACS Corp. Category 5e, Category 5 and MT-RJ optical fiber solutions will be available for both new and existing networks.
When deployed with iTRACS software, the AMPTRAC connectivity management system will provide an automated cabling management system that minimizes network downtime, reduces IT staff workload and streamlines moves, adds and changes. The iTRACS software is designed to generate up-to-date network topology documentation to aid change control, troubleshooting and disaster recovery efforts. It pinpoints wiring trouble spots, sends alerts when a problem is discovered and issues work orders or trouble tickets to initiate corrective action to restore service to end-users.
The installation of the complete system will be provided through AMP NETCONNECT design and installation contractors. This strategy is designed to give customers a single source for all components, permitting interoperability, simultaneous installation of hardware and software, and reduced installation and integration time.
Tyco Electronics is based in Harrisburg, Pa. The AMPTRAC connectivity management system is the outgrowth of a strategic alliance between Tyco Electronics and iTRACS Corp. Under the agreement, Tyco Electronics is licensed to manufacture the proprietary iTRACS hardware and assume sales, marketing and fulfillment responsibilities for the combined hardware/software solution.
