DACS Destiny, introduced this week by Lucent Technologies (Murray Hill, NJ), is designed to let service providers converge private line/TDM network traffic onto multiservice ATM backbone networks, with the capability to manage both concurrently.

The solution is based on Lucent's DACS II digital cross-connect series, which lets providers transfer data and voice between the two transport systems, offering an evolutionary path for those providers who have a significant investment in TDM networks. With DACS Destiny, the ATM core network can carry broadband traffic as well as legacy narrowband private line traffic that can be converted to ATM, thereby creating a single converged TDM/ATM network for what Lucent says is "a significantly smaller investment."
