TIA Publishes New Fiber Optic Standard and Test Procedure

Nov. 13, 2000
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) (www.tiaonline.org) has published a new standard and a new test procedure.

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) (www.tiaonline.org) has published a new standard, "Generic Specification for Optical Fiber Splices," TIA-6090000. The document applies to optical fiber splices used in fiber optic telecommunications. TIA has also published a new test procedure, FOTP [Fiber Optic Test Procedure] - 197, "Differential Group Delay Measurement of Single-Mode Components and Devices by the Differential Phase Shift Method," TIA/EIA-455-197. The test procedure measures the polarization-sensitive differential group delay (DGD) of one or two port single-mode fiber components over the 1.0 to 1.7 micrometer wavelength range.
