Plans are underway to begin construction of Africa ONE's 32,000 kilometer undersea fiber optic cable network that will ring the African continent, beginning in 2002. With 26 landing points in Africa, southern Europe and the Middle East, Africa ONE will offer all regions of Africa secure fiber optic technology that provides automatic restoration in the event of a break.

Cable manufacturing will begin this year, with installation beginning in 2001.
